Opera Cake

Opera cake, or "gâteau opéra" is a cake layered like an opera house. The layers are of almond sponge cake (Joconde) soaked in coffee syrup, with coffee, ganache and chocolate glaze on the various layers. It was popularised by Dalloyau.

Giacomo Puccini

Giacomo Puccini was an Italian composer known for his operas.  

Born on 22 December 1858, in Lucca, Tuscany, he is regarded as the greatest proponent of Italian opera after Verdi. Verdi is very famous for the libretto (extended musical work) "Rigoletto".

Puccini's Suor Angelica ("Sister Angelica"), featuring the composition Ave Maria, was composed in 1918, when he was age 60.
