Azimuthal Quantum Number
Azimuthal quantum number is a quantity that is being increasingly talked about in chemistry. The concept comes from quantum mechanics, and is a number assigned to an atomic orbital - a function that describes the wave like behaviour of an electron in an atom. Certain classes of elements in the periodic table such as transition metals are classified by their azimuthal quantum number.
